A header is a beam that spans the top of an opening for a window, door or sliding door.
What is header sag? Header sag is when the header above a door opening starts to sag down over time. This is due to the weight of the roof, combined with gravity, spread over the span of the sliding door opening.
When the header sags too much it begins to pinch the rolling panels of the sliding door. The pressure on top wears down the rollers, damages the track, and causes the sliding door frame to start pulling away from the glass. The sliding door starts to feel heavy and before you know it, it won't roll at all. This whole process is completely normal, but it's a drag (no pun intended).

Here you can see where the top edge of the rolling panel has been rubbing metal-to-metal against the header on top. If this sliding door is not repaired, the top of the rolling panel will cut all the way through the top jamb, or the door will become completely wedged in the opening and will not slide at all.

Does this door need a cut down?
The short answer is yes.
Pictured here is the top edge of the rolling panel of a sliding glass door. As you can see, the top edge of the panel is pushed up tight against the top jamb of the sliding door outer frame.
This is due to the header above the door sagging down. As a result the rolling panel can not be lifted off the track in order to change the rollers. It is wedged too tight in the opening. This panel needs to made shorter in order to roll smoothly and function properly.
